Study results on the effects of singing bowl therapy

Singing bowl therapy is increasingly recognized as an effective method for promoting health and well-being. A recent review article titled "The human health effects of singing bowls: A systematic review," authored by Jessica Stanhope and Philip Weinstein in 2020, sheds light on the remarkable results that can be achieved through the application of singing bowls.

Overall, four studies were included in the review article, which examined various aspects of singing bowl therapy. Singing bowl therapy was compared with various interventions, including placebo treatments, silence, and meditation.

The investigations encompassed subjective measurements such as pain, tension, anger, confusion, distress, anxiety, fatigue, quality of life, and disability. However, objective measurements such as blood pressure, heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, cutaneous conductivity, peripheral capillary oxygen saturation, and electroencephalogram measurements were also conducted.

Here are the summarized results of the review:

  1. Pain Relief: Singing bowl therapy led to significant improvements in pain intensity among individuals with chronic back pain.

  2. Mood Enhancement: A significant decrease in negative affects such as tension, anger, and confusion, along with an increase in positive affects, was observed.

  3. Stress Reduction: Singing bowl therapy resulted in a significant decrease in distress among patients with metastatic cancer.

  4. Improvement in Cardiovascular Health: Study findings suggest that singing bowl therapy also has positive effects on cardiovascular health by significantly reducing blood pressure, heart rate, and heart rate variability.

  5. Relaxation and Calming: The soothing sounds of singing bowls can also contribute to relaxing and calming the body. This is supported by significant improvements in peripheral capillary oxygen saturation and cutaneous conductivity, indicating enhanced relaxation of the body.

These results are not only impressive but also promising for those seeking holistic approaches to improving their health. While further research is needed to fully understand the range of benefits of singing bowl therapy, these findings suggest that it may be a promising option for alleviating pain, improving cardiovascular health, and reducing stress.
