How Sounds Can Help With PMS

Many women experience symptoms such as pain, breast tenderness, mood swings, irritability, depressive moods, migraines, headaches, blemished skin, and so on during the days leading up to menstruation. The medical term for this is premenstrual syndrome (PMS). It can have over 150 symptoms and is estimated to affect 1 in 4 women, in varying degrees.

The causes of PMS are still not clearly understood. In PMDS, the premenstrual dysphoric disorder, in which mood problems are in the foreground, it is assumed today that there is a hypersensitivity to the normal fluctuations of the sex hormones in the cycle. Of course, true hormonal fluctuations or interactions with other hormones such as serotonin, insulin, thyroid hormones, cortisol, histamine and others may still be involved. We now know that there is a hereditary component, where there is not one PM(D)S gene, but rather multiple gene complexes and naturally "inherited" behaviors.

What we also know is that we ourselves, through our lifestyle, have a great deal of influence on how we feel cyclically. Nutrition, sleep, exercise and dealing with stress play a decisive role. Especially the topic of relaxation is essential during the luteal phase, which begins after ovulation, and during menstruation. Relaxation tools can be used prophylactically or soothingly against cycle complaints. Here, sound meditation with crystal singing bowls, for example, is a great way to dampen hypersensitivity and also counteract real fluctuations.

If you suffer from PMS, you probably know how painful and stressful this time of the month can be. But did you know that there are certain sounds and frequencies that can help relieve your symptoms? The reason is that sound healing works on a deeper level than traditional medications or treatments. Sounds can help relax the body and balance the energy flows in the body. This can help harmonize your body and mind and make you feel better overall.

One example of using Sound Healing for PMS is to use singing bowls - both Tibetan and crystal singing bowls. These bowls are placed on or near the body and then gently struck. The composition of a sound meditation follows a sequence of vibrational frequencies that bring you to peace and relaxation very quickly. In addition to the deep relaxing effect, Sound Healing is said to stimulate the immune system, relieve pain, reduce anxiety, release mental blocks and physical tension. Try a sound meditation in the luteal or menstrual phase and you will see how good it works. Sound baths unfold their magic not only live on site, but also online or as a recording.

Using crystal singing bowls for PMS can also help to improve mood and reduce stress. Many women report significant improvement in their symptoms when they work regularly with crystal singing bowls. Some of my AkashaBowls® incorporate gemstones, such as Moonstone, which is often associated with the female cycle and hormone regulation. It is believed that moonstone can help with PMS symptoms by balancing hormone production and promoting emotional balance. The healing stone for women is often worn on or near the lower abdomen for its effects. If you are interested in the AkashaBowls® Crystal Singing Bowl with Moonstone, click here.

If you want to learn more about PMS relief, I can highly recommend the latest book by my colleague Dr. Mirjam Wagner, "Mein PMS und ich", which takes a very scientific look at the whole topic, but also goes into integrative ways of relief, such as Sound Healing and nutrition.
