The Effects of Tuning Forks on Body & Mind

Tuning forks are used for various purposes and have a positive effect on our body and mind. Specialist in the field of therapeutic sound and human biofield is Eileen Day McKusick. She is a pioneering researcher, author, inventor, practitioner, educator and speaker. She has been researching the effects of sound on the human body and its electromagnetic system since 1996.

You'll find out what those exact effects are later in this blog article.

In the therapeutic field, tuning forks are often used in so-called sound therapy. Here, the vibrations of the tuning forks are used to dissolve blockages in the body and activate the body's own self-healing powers. This type of therapy can be used for various ailments such as tension, stress, pain or sleep problems.

In the spiritual context, tuning forks are often used as a tool to increase energy levels and clear blockages on a spiritual level. The vibrations or frequencies produced contribute to harmonization and alignment with higher energy levels. This leads to relaxation, clarity and inner peace, which is why the practice with tuning forks can also be well incorporated into meditations, yoga, breathing exercises or acupressure.

Back to Eileen Day McKusick: In her book "Tuning the Human Biofield" she describes the use of tuning forks in the context of the bioelectric field (biofield) of the human body. Other words for it include "aura," "energy field," or "chi."

She believes that the "biofield" is capable of receiving and storing information from the environment and that it plays an important role in maintaining physical and mental health. According to McKusick, by targeting specific points on the body, such as the meridians or chakras, with tuning forks, blockages and disturbances in the bioelectric field can be released, leading to stress reduction, inner peace and vitality.

Through the frequencies of the tuning forks, many things also happen on the biochemical and physiological level of our body. Some studies have shown that the body reduces stress hormones such as cortisol and instead releases hormones such as serotonin and endorphins, which are associated with positive emotions and relaxation. There is also evidence that tuning forks can improve blood flow and circulation. Likewise, applying vibrations to the body has been shown to reduce muscle tension and improve muscle tone. This can help reduce tension and pain.

So you see how many beneficial effects practicing with tuning forks can bring. For a better overview I will summarize the most important aspects:

  • More relaxation and improved stress reduction

  • Increased quality of sleep

  • Relief from pain and discomfort

  • Support of mental health

  • Improvement of physical health

Besides tuning forks made of steel or aluminum, they are also available in crystal glass, which perfectly match the AkashaBowls®. For more information, click here.

The size and shape of the tuning fork can vary depending on the application. Some tuning forks have a longer and thinner tine, while others have shorter and thicker tines. Tuning forks may also come in different pitches or frequencies to meet different needs. In addition, there are body tuning forks with weights.
