Sound Healing and Breathwork - A Powerful Combination

Sound Healing and Breathwork are both effective methods for reducing stress and tension, increasing self-awareness and improving physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. When taken together, these two practices can be a powerful force for healing and transformation.

How Sound Healing and Breathwork works: Sound Healing uses sounds and vibrations to soothe and heal the body, mind and spirit. It uses instruments such as singing bowls, gongs, didgeridoos and even the human body by singing or sounding. Breathwork, also known as pranayama, is a practice from yoga that focuses on conscious breath control to calm and strengthen the mind and body.

When they work together and Sound Healing is taken together with Breathwork,

this can enhance the effect of both methods.

The sound can help to calm the breath and bring attention to the breathing. Conscious control of the breath can help to allow the sound to enter the body more deeply and enhance the effect of Sound Healing.

The combination of Sound Healing and Breathwork can help to reduce stress and tension, relax the body, improve concentration and increase self-awareness. It can also help to treat sleep disorders, relieve depressions and strengthen your immune system.

Doctor Lisa Schuster uses breathing exercises especially at the beginning of a sound meditation to calm the nervous system and therefore make it easier for the participants to focus on the sounds and arrive fully in the here and now. This can be as little as 3-5 minutes at the beginning of a sound meditation. Examples of breathing exercises used are Box-Breathing, 4-7 Breathing (Breathe in on 4 and out on 7), which ensure that the paired sympathetic part of the nervous system is stimulated and so relaxation is induced. This is an important foundation for the participant to engage and open up to the sounds.

Conclusion:

Sound Healing and Breathwork are both effective methods that can improve physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing in different ways. When taken together, these two practices can be a powerful force for healing and transformation. Try it out and experience for yourself the benefits of combining Sound Healing and Breathwork.
